School Counseling 101 Graduate Panel Event

This event is for school counseling graduate students. Attendees will
hear from a panel of professionals in education and school counseling.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
*Get tips for job interviewing & resume writing
*Have resumes reviewed at the event
*network with professionals
*learn about job opportunities and career advancement options

Panel Presenters:
Dr. Rebecca Devries: Director Of School Counseling, Schenectady City
School District: Dr. Devries prioritizes shared decision making and fostering strong
collaborative relationships with the community, families, students, and staff to effectively serve all
students. With approximately 20 years of experience in urban education, she advocates for
inclusivity, equity, and access for all children within her role.

Janelle Sipowicz: Director of SEL/Counseling, South Glens Falls School
District: Janelle supports the programming, staffing & curriculum necessary to meet the needs
of students through the work of our School Counselors, Social Workers, and School
psychologists. She is grateful to assist in finding ways for students to be successful.

Kristen Connor: Bethlehem School District, K-12 Counseling and Social
Work Supervisor: Prior to taking on this role, Kristen was a school counselor in the
Niskayuna school district for 13 years.

Michael Burns: Questar III BOCES, Early Learning Principal
Michael started his career in education as an elementary teacher. He began his administrative
work as the principal of Chatham Elementary prior to taking his current position with Questar. He
is a published author of the children’s SEL book “Nervous Rex,” and is currently working on his
second book.

Janelle Lyons: School Counselor Catapult Learning, NYSSCA Region 4
Governor, CDCA Graduate Committee Chair: Janelle has been a school counselor
in the capital region for 15 years working in a variety of settings, public and private schools
primarily with students grade preK thru grade 8. She has been heavily involved with the local
professional organization, CDCA, and state level association NYSSCA. Via these volunteer
positions, she works to help advance and advocate for the school counseling profession while
supporting local school counselors via coordination of professional development and outreach.

*Jaymes White: Principal/CEO of Green Tech Charter School: Jaymes started
his career in education as a school counselor and transitioned into administration as an assistant
principal in the Tamarac School district prior to taking on his current role. Jaymes remains active
in local school counseling associations and will be reviewing resumes at this event.
