The New York State School Counselor Association presents several awards each year at our annual conference.  The award categories this year include:

  • School Counselor of the Year
  • Administrator of the Year
  • Career Achievement
  • Outstanding Program, Practice, or Project

Please Note:  For School Counselor of the Year, begin the nomination or submission process with “Apply Today”.  To submit a nomination or complete a submission, you will need to register on the site (or login if you have previously submitted.)  Just click the “Login” button and you will be directed.   To access all other awards, click on “Other Awards” or go directly to the online application through the link listed below.

The application process is designed to be completed by the school counselor.  Self-nomination is expected.  If nominated by a colleague, the essay section must still be completed by the school counselor.  Only complete applications will be considered.

NYSSCA’s annual awards are designed to recognize the best in the school counseling field in New York State. All nominees must be members of the New York State School Counselor Association in good standing, except for Administrator of the Year.  The deadline for all submissions is October 15, 2018.  Nominations can be made by the nominee or a colleague of the nominee.

The NYSSCA School Counselor of the Year award recognizes a school counselor who has exhibited outstanding service to students and the profession.  The nominee demonstrates creative school counseling innovations, effective counseling programs, leadership skills and contributions to student enhancement.  The nomination format follows the same criteria as the ASCA School Counselor of the Year Award, which enables NYSSCA to nominate the winner of our award for the ASCA award.  Click Here for more School Counselor of the Year Info.  Click Here for School Counselor of the Year Nominations and Submissions online form

The NYSSCA Administrator of the Year award is recognizes a department, building or district leader who has provided outstanding support to the school counseling profession through development of the district comprehensive school counseling program or other program innovations. The NYSSCA Career Achievement award recognizes an elementary, middle/junior high, secondary, or multilevel (P-12) school counselor, director/supervisor of school counseling, or counselor educator for outstanding service, achievement, and dedication to the counseling profession.  Click here for Career Achievement Award information and online application form link.

The NYSSCA Outstanding Program, Practice or Project award recognizes the best professional practice in the field which is developmental and sequential in nature as conducted during the previous school year.  Nominations should reflect cutting edge theory or practice in the field and offer evidence of impact on students or the professional community. The NYSSCA Conference Leadership Grant. 

NYSSCA is pleased to announce a Leadership Grant for members who may be interested in a leadership position in our professional organization. We will sponsor 4 grants this year. Candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Be a current NYSSCA member.
• Have an interest in a NYSSCA leadership position and join a NYSSCA    Committee after the grant is received.
• Attend the conference in its entirety, including attendance at a workshop on the functioning of the NYSSCA Executive Board.
Grants will cover conference registration fees and hotel fees for a two night stay (Thursday, November 15th and Friday, November 16th), up to $500.  Click HERE for the Leadership Grant Application
