NYSSCA is pleased to announce the winners of the Annual Awards from this year's state conference:

At its Annual Awards Banquet on October 23, 2011 in Rochester, NY, the New York State School Counselor Association presented Awards and Recognitions to the following members:

School Counselor of the Year Award

School Counselor Kathryn Haley of the Enders Road Elementary School of the Fayetteville-Manlius School District was presented our School Counselor of the Year Award.  In her 15 years of experience, she has demonstrated wisdom, compassion, and dedication and embodies the best that School Counseling offers.  She works closely with all staff and administration and has a glowing spirit whether she is teaching in the classroom, presenting to an audience, working with students or conferring with parents.

Career Achievement Award

Dr. Roselind Gullo Bogner of Niagara University in Niagara Falls has dedicated her life and energy to the school counseling profession and was presented the Career Achievement Award.  She has had an extensive career as a School Counselor and Counselor Educator.  She is an innovative beacon in her profession with varied experience, vast knowledge, and tireless dedication.  Dr. Bogner has taught at several colleges in Western New York and has shared her knowledge and wisdom with many preservice and current counselors.  She served as a school counselor in the Lakeshore Central School District for 32

President’s award


Deborah Rotunda of Central Islip has served as NYSSCA’s Treasurer since 2008 and was presented the President’s Award.  In her tenure as Treasurer, she has professionalized our business operation and standardized many procedures and processes.  She has given generously of her time and expertise to the School Counselors of New York State.  Deborah is also active in numerous community nonprofit boards in her local community.

NYSSCA 2012 AWARDS PROGRAM

 

The New York State School Counselor Association offers annual awards at the conference.   

The award categories this year (Click for more information):

Ø      School Counselor of the Year

Ø      Career Achievement Award

Ø      Outstanding Program, Practice, or Project

The 2012 Awards Program recognizes excellence in the field.

The School Counselor of the Year will be awarded to the school counselor who best exemplifies the model of an ideal school counselor.  He or she will have exhibited outstanding service to students and/or the profession and have a history of excellence in the field.

The Career Achievement Award recognizes the school counselor or counselor educator whose contributions to his or her students, place of employment, colleagues, and community have been substantial and ongoing.  The recipient must exhibit a commitment to professional school counseling and have a record of service to the profession.

The Outstanding Program, Practice, or Project Award honors the best professional project in the field conducted in the previous school year.  Projects nominated should reflect cutting edge theory or practice in the field and a substantial impact on student development or the professional community.

NYSSCA’s annual awards are designed to recognize the best and brightest in the professional school counseling field in New York State.  All nominees must be members of the New York State School Counselor Association in good standing.
